Description
The Strength card depicts the scene of a maiden gently closing the mouth of a lion. She is wearing long, flowing, white robes symbolizing her purity, dignity and grace. She is wrapped with a wreath of roses symbolizing the divine feminine consciousness in full bloom.
As we also see with The Magician, the maiden bears the sign of the Holy Spirit above her Crown Chakra, symbolizing the Shekhinah resting upon her: the ultimate expression of self-mastery and full self-possession.
The lions mouth being closed is symbolic of the strength attained when the negative voices in the mind are silenced. The lion also appears to be licking the maiden, which could imply the integration of the shadow; where the subconscious mind is no longer actively hostile. It also signifies the power of the higher-nature of Spirit over the primal instincts of the material.
